2024 Year in review! Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre 2024 highlights!
Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre has been the premier live performance destination since its grand opening on 2 June 1990. This powerhouse venue has long been at the forefront of Illinois’ vibrant entertainment scene, welcoming thousands of people to the hottest concerts. Ever since opening its doors, Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre has captured the hearts of both locals and tourists. Located in the heart of Chicago’s metropolitan area, it stands tall as one of the biggest music venues in America, boasting a capacity of 28,000, including a whopping 11,000 reserved seats and an impressive 17,000 lawn seats. Set amongst the stunning Tinley Park, the esteemed stage welcomes everything from rock and pop right through to country and jazz. With an extensive seating capacity, breathtaking views, and top notch facilities, it’s no wonder major artists like Imagine Dragons have chosen to perform at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre this year.
The spring season opened with a bang. The global hip hop/rap superstar 21 Savage arrived at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in May and it was epic! As part of The American Dream Tour, he got the entire audience jumping on their feet as he spit bars from his latest and greatest hits on May 21. The concert came in support of his latest album, The American Dream, and saw him conquer the stage with new hits like its title track, ALL OF ME, and LETTER TO MY BRUDDA. Fellow artists J.I.D., Nardo Wick, and 21 Lil Harold even joined the stage for this wicked rap night. Spring also saw New Kids On The Block (June 15) and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie (June 16) take to the stage.
It wasn’t only the stunning views of Tinley Park that lit up this summer, but Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre’s roster of talent. The summer calendar opened up with a legendary co-headlining concert. On June 29, Santana teamed up with the sensational Counting Crows and it was unforgettable! This one of a kind tandem delivered the best of the ‘90s and early 2000s, with a huge catalog of countless hits and timeless classics. July was met with a legendary lineup that was matched by the crowd’s energy. While the Irish heartthrob Nial Horan brought “The Show” of a lifetime to the stage with new smash hits like “On A Night Like Tonight” on July 9, diamond-selling bands Train, REO Speedwagon & Special Guest Yacht Rock Revue parked their Summer Road Trip at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre on July 13. Happy concert goers also rocked out to their favorite artists like, Motown icons, The Commodores and The Pointer Sisters (July 11), nü metal five piece Limp BIzkit (July 20), and the Award-winning Red Lion-based rockers Halestorm (July 21). What’s more, the modern forerunners of synthesizing regional Mexican music Grupo Firme (July 19) and Nashville country rocker Hardy (July 27) took to the stage to bid farewell to the touring scene with their farewell tours. Grupo Firme’s La Ultima Pedia Tour (The Last Drunken Party Tour) and Hardy’s Quit!! Tour was full of emotion, nostalgia, and good times.
August was another epic month that saw some of the biggest artists in the scene perform under the starlit sky. Events started on August 3 with Sammy Hagar rocking out the stage with some of your favorite Van Halen classics like “Right Now,” “Good Enough,” and “Eagles Fly.” He was joined by special guests and “Turn Me Loose” and “Working for the Weekend” hitmakers Lover Boy. On August 8, Barbie came to town and drenched the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in pink. The live rendition of the Barbie Movie saw everyone’s favorite doll come to life in a totally unique and immersive way. A full symphony orchestra performed the stunning score while the movie played on a massive LED screen. Helmed by the Tony Award-winner Macy Schmidt, The Barbie Land Sinfonietta played songs from the smash hit movie, such as “Barbie World,” “WATATI,” “Dance The Night,” and “What Was I Made For?” – just to name a few! But that’s not all, August also hosted Hootie and The Blowfish (August 9), Xscape, SWV, Mya, 702 & Total (August 11), Creed, 3 Doors Down & Finger Eleven (August 16), Kidz Bob Live (August 17), Imagine Dragons (August 18), Deep Purple (August 23), Foreigner, Styx & John Waite (August 24), The Doobie Brothers & Steve Winwood (August 25), Pitbull (August 30), as well as Lauryn Hill & The Fugees (August 31).
On September 7, Megadeth set the stage on FIRE! “Megadeth pulled zero punches with an all-killer-no-filler setlist as they hit the mandatory classics like “Sweating Bullets,” “Hangar 18,” “She-Wolf,” “Symphony of Destruction,” and “Peace Sells” alongside newer-ish tracks and additional fan favorites that don’t always get played every single tour. It can be argued that this is probably one of the stronger tour set lists they’ve done,” cheered one happy concertgoer.
With an epic roster of talent like that, it’s safe to say that Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre had a truly sensational year, and we’re already buzzing for 2025! What’s in store? There’s only one way to find out – check out our upcoming events today!
