The Offspring is one of the leading purveyors of punk rock music during the ‘90s. Alongside renowned names like Green Day, NOFX, and Bad Religion, The Offspring was revered for helping revive the punk movement. They released their self-titled debut album in 1989. The critically-acclaimed record showcased the band’s hard-edged sound, evident in the album’s lead single, “I’ll Be Waiting.”
In 1994, the band achieved their first breakthrough with their third album, Smash. The record, released through Epitaph Records, peaked at number 4 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Heatseekers chart. Besides the U.S., the album also entered the charts in 15 other countries, making it The Offspring’s first international success. The album spawned several great hits, such as “Gotta Get Away,” “Self-Esteem,” and “Come Out and Play.” The record, which was regarded as helping bring punk to the mainstream market, sold over 11 million copies worldwide, six million of which were sold in the U.S. alone. The outstanding sales performance led to multiple platinum certifications in ten countries.
In 1998, The Offspring released the massive hit single “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy).” The song entered five Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100. The single also topped the charts in the U.K. and 11 other countries. Its success was followed by several more hit singles, like “Why Don’t You Get a Job,” “The Kids Aren’t Alright,” and “She’s Got Issues.” All these tracks were featured in the band’s fifth studio album, Americana. The highly-acclaimed record sold over ten million copies worldwide, making it The Offspring’s second best-selling record after Smash.
This 2023, The Offspring continues their legacy by promoting their 2021 record, Let the Bad Times Roll. It took the band almost m ten years to release the album since its predecessor, Days Go By. Clearly, the wait was worth it because the album featured several incredible singles, such as “Coming For You,” “Gone Away,” and the title track. Upon its release, the 2021 album dominated Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums chart and peaked at number 2 and 3 on the Top Rock and Independent chart. Moreover, the album also entered the charts in over 20 countries. It is suffice to say that fans all over the world have been waiting for this record to come out, and it doesn’t disappoint!
